Tim Vantol Video Shooting for “Bitter Morning Taste”

If you ever watched “Almost Famous”, or you’ve been lucky enough to live or work in the music scene, you definitely know how incredible is the people who crowds it: magnetic personalities, composers able to transmit the mood of the song, drummers with dummers’ humor and writers who seem to have transcript your thought. Unfortunately some of  them, when faced, are poor relation-wise because not so expansive or, worse, bighedaed.  Some others, have a behaviour that simply confirms how true is what they always expressed, giving a face to the moods they brought with their music.

Tim Vantol is one of them and so is his “The Band” (the Misprints) with whom I had the pleasure to work with during their day in Bologna for a date of their european tour: 6 hours spent among coffee, pizza and (welsh) promised Ice Creams, that allowed us to shot the new video for “Bitter Morning Taste”, from the wonderful “If we go down, We will go together” and confirmed how true is this genius from Netherlands.

We had few time and a lot of stuff and people to “move” – 8 from the entourage, Stanga and me – so we decided to shoot all of the scenes in one of the most beautiful and less frequented park in town: Villa Spada, where we’ve been able to set up our set of crane and reflectors and let the rest of the band play around.

In a couple of hourse of continuous playback we managed to shoot all of the scenes that required tripod and crane and all of the moving details with a camera slide leaving 15 minutes to the free hand details by Stanga (shown in the picture). And so, after intriguing (and maybe annoyed) our unwilling crown, we shown to our models some of the footage (you can do it when you work with lights and reflectors) receiving an enthusiastic feedback….with our ego set, we collected all of our stuff and drove to Freak Out, that day’s venue.

We wanted to do a small photo shooting along with the video (Remember what I did for From Plan to Progress?) but the schedule was tight and the management was pressing on them and we had to give up the idea.

But I didn’t miss the show. And here’s where Tim eventually surprised me (again). I already listened to almost all of his songs, due to availability in some social networks, but I wasn’t prepared to his live presence and the way he approaches and engages the crowd. And, after all, he even dedicated us Bitter Morning Taste: “Here’s a song that I dedicate to two awesome guys we went out today shooting an insanely awesome video, as far as I saw. This one is for Claudio and for Lorenzo. Grazie Mille… No words. They made an awesome video and it’s for this song: Bitter Morning Taste. It’s a song about my friends and the people who used to be a big part  in my life and aren’t part of my life anymore and I really miss them“.

Here’s the video that someone shot during the play of Bitter Morning Taste Live al Freak Out di Bologna.

And here are some pictures from the live show
